Getting Back on Track

"Your stance is wrong, you need to stand like you are on a train track." This is what my Shadoshi told us while training. "You lose stability when your stance is narrow. Widen your stance, like you are standing on a railroad track. One foot on one rail, one foot on the other. Now that is a strong stance."
My stance was wrong. I didn’t realize it at the time. One temptation, difficulty, or problem and I fell right over. I lost focus on nutrition first. Emotional eating, stress eating, comfort food that didn’t really comfort. I began to put weight back on (but it was ok I still looked good.) Then the exercise. Well, I am so exhausted, I will just skip today, then another and another. Honestly the only thing I remained somewhat consistent with was my martial arts training (my best motivator). I also noticed that the image in the mirror was changing and not for the better. I think I noticed it mostly in my eyes, the fire was dim. This was unacceptable!
My husband noticed the change as well and we began to talk about it. I missed that strong person I had become, I needed to get back to that place. So, here I am exercising and eating better. I’ve done it before…eliminated grains, most dairy and processed foods. I had never felt better. I honestly did not think I could go back to the way I use to eat, but I did, and I do not like the results.
Honestly, I have been embarrassed that I have gained weight. Embarrassed that I have gone back to unhealthy eating. Embarrassed that I have lost the strength I had gained. This caused a downward spiral of guilt and I couldn’t seem to pull myself out. I read an article… I don’t remember who wrote it or where exactly I saw it but it talked about how our eating habits are formed over decades. It only makes sense that it will take a while to “undo” those said habits. That was what I needed to hear. That it may take a while to break old habits, it will take a while to instill new ones. The key, is to not give up. So I have widened my stance, like I am standing on a train track. I am focused and ready to fight my way back to a place of health, confidence, and strength. Just like my training in martial arts I will have to continually check my stance and keep my guard up. I know and realize that difficulties will come and knock me like a roundhouse kick to the head… But you know what, I can take that hit and fight back, I am stronger than I realize. My stance was wrong, I dropped my guard, I took the hit…and now… I am fighting back!

Stronger: The Change In The Mirror

rsmartffa:

Think for a moment about that mirror you pass everyday, you know the one I’m talking about. It may be your bathroom mirror, a mirror at work, that mirror you pass on a regular basis that you pause at to look at yourself. I am talking about that mirror that when you stop to look in it you glance to…

Well, here I go again. I am re-posting this because it is my inspiration to get back to where I need to be. I have lost focus, failed at eating healthy and I am not very happy with that person I see in the mirror. So, I am doing something about it. Maybe you’ve been there, perhaps you are there now. It has been very difficult for me. I lost the weight, gained strength and then allowed it to fall apart. The embarrassment of that has been nearly unbearable. The feeling of wanting to avoid anyone who watched me go through the makeover hearing imaginary conversations that I was certain people were having… “I knew she couldn’t keep it up.” For whatever reasons I did not stay with my fitness routine or lost my focus in nutrition. I am getting up, shaking the dust off and moving forward. I move forward knowing that I did it once… I can do it again… And I will do it better!! So, here I am with my struggles and successes. Continuing on my journey to be Stronger. I would love it if you would join me, if I can, I would like to encourage you.

This was amazing. Used coconut oil, little Tony’s but not much… My kicker was Sriracha HOT chili sauce ;)

Cucumber & Broccoli Salad

Ingredients:
English cucumber, red onion, broccoli florets, cauliflower florets, bacon, avocado mayo.

Chop ingredients small and mix together with homemade avocado mayo. Add a pinch of salt and a little black pepper. Very good!!

Avocado Mayo:
Mix together an avocado, and 2-3 tbs of plain Greek yogurt, add salt and black pepper with garlic to taste. This is so good on lettuce wraps too!!

Soup Recipe ;)
This is my “Go to” meal when I need to get back on track with nutrition. I am bad about not putting my recipes in a recipe “format” so I will do that for you ;) please keep in mind that there are limitless variations on this recipe. The good thing about soup is that you can be creative and just use what you have on hand. Let me see some posts about your soup… Your variations!!
INGREDIENTS:
Meat of choice. Cooked (use olive oil) and seasoned to taste. I like to use ground turkey… Go with lean meats. You could also use steak or chicken.
Seasonings: Italian Seasonings, Tony’s with Herbs (use what you like)
1 can of tomato sauce (organic and/or low sodium)
1 can of chicken broth
1 can of Rotel…if you like spicy
Water to bring up the broth level
VEGGIES: (I prefer fresh veggies, but frozen could be used…fresh is better:)
1 zucchini
1 yellow squash
1 bag of fresh broccoli cauliflower and baby carrots
 Mushrooms
Cook meat in olive oil and season to taste. Add all other ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat.
Important for this soup is to NOT overcook the veggies! They should be tender but not “mushy.” This soup freezes well and makes a wonderful lunch for those busy times.
Other ingredients: garbanzo beans, black beans, green, red, orange, yellow peppers, other squash….be creative. There are no “rules” with this soup or any soup! Use what you have on hand…or buy what looks good in the store that day! My soup is a little different every time I make it. Enjoy and please let me know if you make it…share :)

Time to get back on track … The day after Christmas I will be working hard! I am also going to do my best to be “reasonable” with my food choices!
